Supplemental
Educational Services
at
New Paris Elementary
Under
the No Child Left Behind Act , the Federal education
reform law, New Paris students from low-income families are now
eligible to receive free academic tutoring under a national program
called Supplemental Educational Services (SES). Through SES, a
child is eligible for extra help in reading, math, or other core
subjects if he or she is: 1) eligible for free or reduced-price
lunch, 2) attends New Paris Elementary, and 3) is non-proficient
in grade level assessments of academic progress. Since the state
has identified New Paris as not making adequate yearly progress
for 3 years, the State provides an approved list of service providers
for tutoring. Parents will have access to quality, state-approved
supplemental service providers and should choose one that is geographically
reasonable. The school and corporation are not required to provide
transportation for SES. It will be the parents' responsibility
to get the child to the place of service, but the school can help
parents select a provider. Parents must inform the school of the
provider they have chosen for their child before mid-September.
Fairfield Schools will contact the providers chosen by parents.
A contract will be established between the district and the
providers, in consultation with the parents of each participating
student. Fairfield Schools will pay the tutoring provider
directly at no cost to parents.
To
learn more about available SES services, parents can call Assistant
Superintendent Steve Thalheimer at 831-2188 or contact New Paris
Elementary Principal Lisa Litwiller at 831-2196.
