It wasn't the storybook, fairy tale contest Fairfield wanted in opening its brand new softball facility. While there is still some detail work to be done to the softball field and certainly around the complex as construction continues, Fairfield hosted Wawasee Monday afternoon in non-conference softball action. Wawasee played the roll of spoilers in the first-ever contest on the turf field, scoring four early runs to foil Fairfield's opener, 5-2.
Makayla Culp had an RBI triple to lead Fairfield, which fall to 5-1 on the season after opening the campaign with five straight road games in March. Fairfield plays again at home on Thursday before hitting the road for the remainder of the month of April.
