Here is an important update regarding the new cell phone policy for the 2026-27 school year.

The first day of school is Wednesday, August 12th. Attendance matters at Fairfield Community Schools. Our attendance policy was recently updated and approved by the school board. We feel strongly that regular attendance and promptness are essential for students to receive the maximum benefit from school and for effective and meaningful learning to occur. All absences have an impact on learning regardless of attempts to make up work. Reasons for being absent may be valid and provide unique learning opportunities, but there is no perfect substitution for being in class. Certain kinds of classroom activities, once missed, can never be recovered. Therefore, parents are encouraged not to take the student out of school unless it is an emergency situation.
Attendance Procedures
-Five Unexcused Absences: The school will schedule an attendance conference with the student and parent/guardian within 10 instructional days. This meeting may include counselors or community service providers to develop an intervention plan.
-Ten Unexcused Absences: The student will be identified as a habitual truant. The school may notify the prosecuting attorney, the Department of Child Services, and the Bureau of Motor Vehicles regarding the student’s ineligibility for a driver’s license or permit if applicable (for students aged 15–18).
Chronic Absenteeism
-All students with 18 or more (excused or unexcused) absences will be identified as chronically absent.
-The school will schedule an attendance conference with the student and parent/guardian within 10 instructional days. This meeting may include counselors or community service providers to develop an intervention plan.
-Any additional absences in the school year will be counted as excused ONLY if accompanied by proper documentation to verify the absence (doctor’s note, court order, etc.) within 3 days of the student’s return to school. Parent call and/or note is not considered verification of absence for chronically absent students.
Students identified as chronically absent may not be suspended or expelled solely for their absenteeism.
For more information, go to the student handbook on our website.

Parents, if your student needs transportation for the 2026-2027 school year, they will need to be registered by July 31st. Our transportation team is putting the plan together for the upcoming school year, and this will give them time to get all students added to the routes.
Thanks You!
