Fairfield is set to reveal its fall play: The Odd Couple. There will be two performances, Friday, Nov. 17, and Saturday, Nov. 18, in the Fairfield auditorium. Both shows are set for 7 p.m. The storyline, built around writing pals Felix Ungar and Oscar Madison, details how two polar opposites can find common ground among the life around them. The Friends of Benton plaques have been taken down at Benton Elementary School, but were saved. This weekend we pause and pay respects to those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice, as well as those who are still in uniform serving our country. Fairfield Jr/Sr High School held its Veteran's Day program this morning, a moving and powerful tribute to both locals and countrymen. Among the ceremony was a touching tribute of the Missing Man Table, special reads from Fairfield High School students and staff, and a host of FHS graduates who joined the ceremony as special guests. Kudos to Ryan LeCount and Tracy Stanger for their work to put together a quality tribute.

The annual Blue & Gold Gala was center stage Saturday night in New Paris, and once again brought together the Fairfield community in support of its athletic programs. Keynote speaker Brodie Garber spoke, naturally, about the girls basketball run to a state championship, the first-ever team title for a Fairfield team, as well as how the basketball run galvanized a community support that couldn't be overlooked. The Gala once again had several big ticket items up for grabs, including a unique pair of Nike shoes created from actual game-used Fairfield memorabilia.

Fairfield High School saw several of its athletes excel at the regional and state level this year. A host of the state coaches and sport organizations recognized Fairfield athletes for their excellence on the field of play as well as in the classroom. Members of Fairfield's FFA program headed out to the Test Plot south of New Paris Elementary to take part in the harvest. The learning experience included all facets of the process, from simple observation and site management all the way to the physical mechanical operations. FFA Director Karrin Koontz noted the harvest went well, the kids learned more than they planned, and the actual yield was where it needed to be.

If you have a TV nearby on Thursday morning, members of our Fairfield music department will be on Hometown Living on WSBT-22 at 9 a.m. talking about their appearance at the ISSMA State Championships as well as this weekend's Fairfield Music Auction.

The annual Fairfield Community Schools staff costume contest didn't disappoint. Fairfield Jr/Sr High School brought back Molly Ringwald and the crew from "Breakfast Club", Millersburg put on the neon vests for "School Improvements Ahead", Benton let its colors shine bright as "Crayons", while New Paris had Cruella de Vil corralling the puppies as "101 Dalmations". Judging the schools was Central Office feeling their age as "Old Folks". Taking home the traveling trophy for 2023 in a unanimous vote was New Paris!

Walkerton was the end of the line for Fairfield's postseason march. After taking an 8-0 lead, Fairfield gave up 25 unanswered points to lose to John Glenn, 25-8, Friday night in the Class 3-A football sectional semi-finals. Blake Metzger had the lone touchdown for Fairfield on a 13-yard touchdown catch from Brooks Custer, Metzger then evading Glenn for the successful two-point try. Ty'Ronn Larkin returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown, then Chase Miller outran the Fairfield defense for a touchdown, the home-sided Falcons up 14-8 at that point. Miller added a field goal to end the first half, and Glenn tacked on another touchdown in the third quarter to finish out the scoring. Fairfield finishes its season 6-5 overall while Glenn (7-4) advances to face Knox (11-0) in the sectional championship.

Generational connections were being made all over New Paris Elementary on Friday as part of Grandparents Day! Kids got to take their grandparents on quick tours of the hallways and into the classrooms, take part in planned activities, enjoy a dress-up day, and also visit the Book Fair on the way out. It's always a special day when kids can celebrate their grandparents, and New Paris did it right on Friday!

Wanted to pass along a note of reference in an update we've made to give additional options for information. In the cases of our school lunch menus, we now have them listed in a pair of places in addition to your children having access to them in physical form from the schools. You can find each school's breakfast and lunch menus on our Dining tab on both the FCS website as well as the FCS app. Now, you can also find a PDF of each menu in the Documents section for each school. So to sum up, pick a school and hit 'Dining' to see the daily, weekly and monthly menus, or hit Documents and find the folders labeled '2023-24 Breakfast/Lunch Menus' to get access to the PDF files.
