The 2024-25 athletic school year opened on Monday as girls golf competed in the Goshen Invite at Black Squirrel.
Fairfield finished fifth as a team with a 443, led by Bella Blosser’s round of 89. Blosser tied Marian’s Celia Florkowski’s 89 for medalist, and the two had a playoff for honors, which Florkowski won to repeat as the Invite’s top player. Mallory McGowen added another Lady Falcon in the top 10 with her sixth-place finish. Concord repeated as team champion with a 411 team score.
Fairfield was missing McGowen at Thursday’s NorthWood Invite, but shot just four strokes lower than its output at Goshen with a 447 at McCormick Creek. Blosser led the team with a round of 96, and the trio of Greta Hochstetler, Adie Holsopple and Vienna Griffith all finished at 117. NorthWood’s Sophie Richmond was the tourney medalist with a six-under 66 and Northridge outpaced everyone with a championship 308 team score.
McGowen came back with a flourish, winning medalist honors Saturday at the Fremont Invite. McGowen’s 87 provided her with her first-ever tournament win, and was complimented by a 99 from Blosser, who was ninth overall in the tournament, after nearly winning the Goshen medalist to start the week.
The Fremont Invite was comprised mostly of Northeast Corner Conference teams, the team title going to Angola with a 408 team score.
