Fairfield High School is looking to join in the history making this winter as the IHSAA will open its first-ever girls wrestling season!
Below is a release from Fairfield wrestling coach Gene Willard in anticipation of the season.
Girls wrestling became an IHSAA sanctioned sport this past spring. Girls now have the opportunity to compete in their own tournaments and compete in their own tournament series. In the 2024-25 season, girls will only compete with other girls.
We are extremely excited that young ladies in Indiana now have this opportunity and we want you to be a part of our first-ever IHSAA girls wrestling team.
Girls wrestling is a winter sport and officially begins on Oct. 16, 2024, with the first practice. Prior to the official start date we will be having organized open mats starting on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 3:30-5 p.m. This is an opportunity to learn more about the sport and see if your actually interested through participating in workouts.
We had one participant in the IHSGW Girls State Series last year. During her first year of wrestling, Kayla Hochstetler placed third at Regionals, qualifying for Semi-state.
Wrestling is a great opportunity to enhance your athletic ability, mental toughness, and build outstanding character traits that you take with you for the rest of your life.
No prior experience is required. However, to participate you will need to get a physical and submit information into Final Forms.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
