science of reading grant

Fairfield Community Schools was one of 72 Indiana districts to receive the Indiana Department of Education’s 2023-24 Science of Reading Grant.

The $300,000 grant is issued through the Indiana Department of Education’s Literacy Center in an effort to support the implementation of evidence-based practices aligned with the science of reading.

The grant will be used by Fairfield Community Schools to provide training for teachers in the Science of Reading, Professional Learning Communities, and Response to Intervention. The grant will also be used to purchase reading curricular materials for elementary grades that are aligned to the Science of Reading.

“I couldn’t be more proud of the hard work that Ms. Monica Kegerreis, Assistant Superintendent, has invested in receiving this grant for our school corporation,” said Dr. Carrie Cannon, Superintendent for Fairfield Community Schools. “Her dedication to provide guaranteed and viable curriculum will have a huge impact on student reading fluency. Not only will this grant benefit our K-3 students, it will also strengthen our older students to become stronger and more independent readers.”
