The Fairfield wrestling season officially came to a close Saturday at the Fort Wayne Semi-state.
Matthew Senn competed at 138 pounds, paired against Adams Central’s Maverick Dubach, and the Falcon junior couldn’t get anything going.
A Dubach reversal off bottom to start the second marked the beginning of the end for Senn, who was nearly pinned to end the second and found himself down 7-1 into the third. A Dubach takedown midway through the third saw Senn running out of ideas and gas quickly as time ticked away on his season.
The 9-1 loss left Senn 28-9 for his junior season and again just a bit short of reaching the IHSAA State Finals for the first time.

Boys basketball continued on its path toward a sweep of the NECC titles, staying on course with a 74-66 win Friday night at Fremont.
A Fremont team that likes to run and gun suited Fairfield just fine as Mitchell Miller played along and scored a season-high 30 points, hitting five three-pointers in the process. Miller had 18 points at the half, but Fairfield still trailed 36-33 at the break. Miller had 11 in the third as Fairfield was able to outscore Fremont 25-19 in the frame to take a 58-55 lead, and Tyson Frey scored eight of his 10 points in the fourth as the Falcons (7-1 NECC) moved one step closer to the title.
Brant Garber added four made three-pointers and Carson Smith added nine points in the win.
Fairfield’s JV had an easy time with the Eagles, rolling 57-15. Nine Falcons scored, led by Cole Knight’s 14 points and Grady Garber’s 13 points.

Bethany entered the Nest Tuesday having won seven of its past eight games dating back to early January, but that didn’t matter much to the Falcons. Smith scored 12 of his game-high 16 points in the first half, and a 22-point Fairfield second quarter was more than enough for the hosts to run away from the Bruins, 55-27. Miller added 13 points and both Noah Mast and Alex Hofer contributed seven points.
Knight was huge in the middle of the game, and Ben Kio bookended Fairfield’s 63-44 win over the Bruins in the JV contest. Kio scored nine points in the first quarter and finished with 15 points while Knight scored all 19 of his points in the second and third quarters. Matthew Holsopple and Drew Beachy each scored 11 points in the win.

Saturday night, the varsity moved to 16-4 on the season with a snappy 66-39 win over visiting Elkhart Christian Academy. It was senior night, so the elder statesmen were led by Miller’s 12 points, seven points from Frey, five each from Hofer and Smith, four from Brooks Custer, three from Mast and Zeke Yoder got his first start of the season. Sophomore Brant Garber led all scorers with 17 points.
JV was a Fairfield landslide, 70-12, with the Falcons hitting 16-19 free throws in the first half, 20-23 for the game. Kio paced the hosts with 21 points, Isaac Mast had 11, and both Beachy and Logan Miller had 10 points.
